Official song for 500 years of Christianity in PHP released

MANILA, July 12, 2012— The Catholic hierarchy has released the official hymn for the “New Evangelization” as the Church embarked on a nine-year spiritual journey that culminates with the great jubilee on 2021.

The song titled “Live Christ, Share the Eucharist”, was introduced to the members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines during their recent plenary meeting in Manila last Saturday.

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, CBCP vice president, wrote the song’s lyrics while master musician Ryan Cayabyab composed the music.

The country’s 86 dioceses and archdioceses have adopted the hymn, which will be the marching song for the celebration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines on March 16, 2021.

Archbishop Villegas has previously written songs about the Our Lady of EDSA and about the late Jaime Cardinal Sin.

The CBCP has earlier released its new pastoral letter on the new evangelization, which is also titled “Live Christ, Share the Eucharist.”

In the statement, the bishops committed themselves to evangelize the country again to win back Filipinos who have broken away and joined other churches.

They said that the journey toward 2021 is an opportunity for the Church and its clergy to reflect on their failures and how they could draw back people to the Catholic fold. [RL/CBCPNews]
