NOLI: THUMBS UP TO ‘COMMUNAL ACTION’

Vice President Noli De Castro expressed his support to the ‘communal action’ call of the CBCP on a statement made on February 12.

According to the Vice President it is really the right time that all should pray so that the country will find the truth.

The Vice President said that he admires the courage of star witness Jun Lozada of the NBN – ZTE Deal scandal to speak for truth. The Vice President also supported the Senate for the hearings they are doing and hopes that the hearing will soon be finished so that the persons responsible about the scandal will be punished because, according to him “Nobody is above the law.”

Although De Castro had supported the communal action call of the CBCP, his stand is still undefined about the issue. Some speculate that Noli will do a Gloria scenario back in EDSA II. But according to Lingayen – Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz, “Many feel that the Vice-President might not be able to fulfill his sworn duty.”

It was only recent that Noli has expressed his intentions to join the race for Presidency on 2010. In all his current statements Noli points out that the Vice President is the duly constitutional successor when the President is not able to lead. In a recent SWS Survey Noli was ahead of his opponents to succeed Arroyo.

But on a statement made by Renato Reyes, the Secretary-General of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), he said that a De Castro presidency will not be effective and will not be different from that of President Arroyo’s. Reyes told these because of the fence – sitter attitude of the Vice President on issues like the “Hello Garci!” scandal.

“We believe it would be unfair if he would just benefit without lifting any finger,” said Reyes.
